Pork chop

If you were able to raise the front, even a small amount, you will be ahead
of the game when you get the longer bolts. All the slop is now taken up,
and the longer bolts will show results right away. Hang in, it is a steep
learning curve, but not one you are likely to forget anytime soon.

That was the next item Jim K. suggested when I called and talked to him.
I need 1 1/8 " on the left side and 1" on the right side to be in spec.

Bruce,
You didn’t indicate in your follow-up whether you had verified the torsion bar sockets in the LCAs for expansion/cracks/blowout.

I’d hate to see you throw $$ at the wrong parts.

Confirming the LCA condition helps with further diagnosis as well as helping the next guy who digs for answers when they have a similar issue in the future.

Not an exact result. The threads on the adjustment bolt add up to that, but
the old bugaboo "stiction" rears its ugly head. But, it's a good place to
start.

All, I am currently rebuilding my front end, not because it was giving any
trouble, just because it still had all original bushing, ball joints, etc.
Anyway, I have the hubs seperated, the top A arm off, and the bottom A arm
free from the frame however the torsion bar does not seem to want to let go
of the A arm. (of couse I did unload the torsion bar at the pork chops
first) So now the pork chops are loose, and the bottom A arms are loose,
however neither the pork chop nor the A arm wants to let go of the torsion
bar. Any thoughts? Tomorrow morning I am planning on putting my slide
hammer thorough the front A arm to frame bolt hole and see if I can slide
hammer the A arm off of the bar... of course both sides are in the exact
same state of disassembly with both lower A arms needing to let go of the
torsion bars. Some additional information, if I wiggle the A arm up and
down you can feel the torsion bar move just a little inside A arm.

Thanks,

Rich

Finally got the extended threaded torsion bolt. Miscommunication, post
office error, but got the bolt on Saturday the 23.
For what ever reason I went ahead and maxed out the threads, went for a
cruise over several dips and remeasured the ride height
Front left 13 1/8
Front right 13 3/16
Rear left 11 11/16
Rear right 11 5/8

Rear ride height was obtained by air suspension system.

Will need to test run some more before coach goes back to owner in Colorado
Springs, Co.

Rich, my first try on getting torsion bars off the arm was the same
experience that you are having. Somehow I was able to get a little
movement and than I would work the bar back and forth and every time would
get a little more movement until it finally came all the way out.

The torsion bars have likely been there for 40 years. The old soap based
grease, is now thoroughly mixed with road grime, and very hard and thick.
Use something to dissolve the crud in there. Your choice of solvents. I use
red can brake kleen. But other stuff will work as well. Spray the hell out
of it, and let it sit, then wiggle the heck out of it. Get serious with
wrestling with it. It will come apart. JWID.
