Plumbing for Aux Vacuum Pump

I went to the junk yard yesterday and got an aux vacuum pump of an 86
Celebrity. I have mounted it on the flat metal floor just under the brake
peddle using the original mount bracket.

I have the electrical connections figured out. The big red wire to battery
+, the big black wire to battery -, and the small wire to +12v with the
ignition switch on.

I think the vacuum system needs the following. A check valve between the
tee that I put in the brake booster line and the engine. That way when the
engine is not supplying vacuum, the electric vacuum pump is only supplying
vacuum to the brake booster and not trying to pull a vacuum on the engine.
Would someone that knows confirm or shoot this down? If I am thinking
correctly, does someone have a part number for the check valve?

They are supposed to hiss Arch. Mine does the same thing. A little air is
released as you go from one position to another.

Russ,
I plumbed my vacuum pump in series, ie, esentially cut the existing line from
engine to booster and inserted a filter (engine side) then the new aux pump and
from the pump to the booster. No check valve. Works fine. With key on but
engine not started pump runs about 10 seconds to pull a vacuum then shuts off
and does not come on again unless I depress the brake pedal a time or two. BTW,
the hookup scheme was given to me by Al C. You cannot get into trouble
following his advice.

Eugene & Emory,
Thanks for the information. I was thinking that running the aux pump in
series would work. I don't know why I was thinking of using the tee. I
noticed that the car I took the pump from had it in series. That makes the
installation easier, less expensive and probably the way it was designed to
be installed.

You should read the "Plumbing section of my web page. It is prob.
better not to T into the line just run it though the pump.

I do have a drawing that was made by Duane Edwards and I can fax it to you if
you want. I don't know if Gene has it on his web site.
