I use the one that fits a 79 AMC concord 2L (or Audi 2L). I think its a
Fram PH2870. I will try to remember to look it up this weekend. I have a
few other numbers somewhere too. The only problem is that this filter is a
bit longer than the Onan filter so you have to be very careful when closing
the drawer. But for $3 vs $16 I am willing to be careful...

Is it an exact mechanical fit or just fits the threads and is the right
diameter.

Does the Onan filter have any special relief valves etc?

Neely,
The recommended spark plug for the HEI equipped ignition like yours is
0.60" as for the oil filter for the onan you can use any of the following:
Fram PH-28A or PH2870, Hasting 134, Lee LP-21231, Mopar L-323,
Motorcraft FL-271, Purlator FCO-252 or the AutoZone Deutsch D484 which I
use with out problems. Most are less that $4.

I've beeen using the below FRAM filter on our generator for five years now
with no problems.

I believe the relief valve idea is a myth similiar to the engine water pump
myth, etc. They want you to help buy their boat!
