Dear Sirs;

I personally don't care about my karmic ranking, but it is really annoying to see someone like Matt Colie (semi-random example) have a Karma of -11.
That's insulting - to me and to him! Could we please just lose the whole karma thing if it can't be fixed? Thanks.

Last time I looked, mine was equally ridiculous - in the other direction. Pay them no mind.

I've been associate with this forum for....A LOT of years, and never even noticed "karma" for many of those years. When I did notice it, I paid no
mind of it, until it was pointed out again and explained what it meant. Personally, I still pay no mind of it...though I have to admit that I'd like
to see it go. It makes it to easy to prejudge credibility without merit. JMHO

So, what is it supposed to mean? In whose opinion?

I've always understood that the meaning of karma was something like "What
goes around, Comes around" or some such nonsense.
I believe in "Let he who is free of any sin, cast the first stone", Or
"Do unto others, what you would have done to you". Those are good
mantra's,, they have served me in good stead for most of my life.
But, there was a time in my life, before I learned the error of my
ways,........

At one time these 'karma' ratings were or could be a nice tool for the newer folks on the Forum. When responce's were made by someone with a high
karma number a new person could assume the advise was probably sound. If someone with no or negative numbers answered, a newbe might be a little more
skeptical. I can understand how some of the older members of this comunity don't really care about it as they are confident in their own skin, but for
the late arrivals it was a window for them that has now been lost.

I have successfully ignored the Karma because it doesn't seem to show in tree view mode.
But I would like to know how I ended up with a Canadian flag. I am not insulted or even concerned, but it is interesting.

Thanks Matt. I wondered why I next to never saw, or even cared about, it. If you do not like what you see, then do not waste the electrons looking
at it.

Hey Ken. Again, I frankly don't give a rodent's posterior about the ratings, at this point I know who's who, have met a godly number in person, what
their areas of expertise are, etc. But think of a newbie coming to the forum for the first time - all of the stalwarts have big time negative
ratings! In my view it's harming the GMC Community, and I take that seriously.

If the karma ratings can't be fixed, is it really that difficult to just toggle them off?

I think another fair question is why are they so negative.
That means someone physically pushed that little -1 button a whole bunch of times, either someone just doesn't like you and just kept pushing it, or
over the years you've said enough off-color or snarky things that you've accumulated the negative points.

When I first started coming on here I almost didn't come back from all the condescension I got for daring to do things outside the norm. Perhaps those
with the high negative numbers should maybe consider the fact that the negative karma was "earned"?

Just playing devils advocate here :d:
Feel free to give me a -1 click if you think it's necessary

Agreed. Additionally - if the buttons *have* been pushed a lot of times, some of the off-topic & unrelated posts could add up as well (perhaps like a Reddit downvote?)...

It either works and the scores are low or it’s broken and they are meaningless. Your pick!

Either way - if people really “don’t care about the Karma rankings”, then that’s all folks! It shouldn’t bother them one way or the other...

I'd never even noticed "Karma" until this recent thread started. Just now,
for pure curiosity, I scanned back through some of my old postings.
Apparently, since 2009, my Karma has not varied from 9. I've no idea
whether that's good or bad -- nor do I expect to ever notice it again,
intentionally. :-)

I think they update real time. I bumped you to 10 I think, see if the old ones updated.
