WE MADE IT!!!!
Left 6:15 AM returned 11:30 PM. The one with a soft brake pedal (6,050
miles on it)was easy. We bled the front calipers and the pedal came
right back. It started with a jump and ran well.
The 455 (25,000 miles) was very hard to start and after about 45 min. we
finally got it started. It started on the 3rd or fourth time it turned
over. We thought we were golden.
Drove about 50 miles and pulled off I84 to check things over. The 455
had
locked up a front right caliper. They get very hot at 55-60. Changed
caliper
and pads in a vacant parking lot. Another 90 minutes. Bled brakes in
front
and were ready to leave, but what was the puddle by the rear wheel?
Sure
enough a rear line had errupted at the clip to the bogie. The left
middle
brake line was cut and we tried a compression coupler to no avail. The
line
was too rusty to get qood seal. Got out the persuader, folded the line
over
squeezed with vise grips and beat the !##$%^&*& out of it to flaten it.
Tried
the brake and a small dribble came out. Filled the resevoir and crossed
our
collective fingers and headed out to the NYS Thruway.
Stopped four or five time to check things, get gas off load fluids,
refill, and
kept going. Lost the chase car for 20 minutes and finally got home at
11:30.
They both ran well and we were moving at 60-65. The 455 lost gauges
half way home
but it was AOK up till than so we kept going.
Now aht do I do with them? As Spock said sometimes having is not as
much fun as
desiring. Or something to that affect.
Thanks again for all the help.
