We use our black tank like the Mexican hotels....NO PAPER goes into it. Plus we always keep at least 2 gallons of water in it prior to leaving on trip or weekend. We've mever had a
problem.

I agree with the insistence on never allowing the tank to go dry, but can't
observe the
others. We have VERY good luck by using our black water tank
freely, but periodically adding a dose of Rid-X -- NO other chemicals,
EVER. We have no odor problem, have never had a macerator stoppage, and
use the toilet just like the one at home -- nothing but septic-safe toilet
paper and previously consumed
materials. One precaution I do try to
observe is to always dump immediately after arrival, before anything has
been allowed to "set up". I DO have a "spray flusher" to which a water
hose can be attached to wash down the tank, flushing toward the drain
valve. That's used after each trip to be sure no excessive buildup
occurs. I usually follow that with a fresh dose of Rid-X to help keep the
"good bugs" healthy.
