I'll put this out and see where it goes.
As people upgrade there is a lot of GMC stuff hitting
the trash cans.
What if all old parts, those broken and those no
longer needed were shipped to a single location. When
someone in this group needed something, they would
call Pack Rat Central, and order the part. Price based
on a percentage of Cinnibar; depending on condition.
After shipping is paid, 1/2 the profit goes to the
original owner (who didn't want it in the first place
but this pays for his freight ) and the other half
stays with PRCentral to cover operating costs !

Now we need someone without a life to take this
project on :-) . The other requirments would be a
tolerant wife and lotsa space for storage.

Like I said it's only a thought! If you like it, it's
all mine. If you don't, I'm gonna try and hang it on
Tom Warner :-)

Good idea. But I don't think it will fly because most of us
have lives and if they are like me, they barely have room
enough for their own stuff, much less all the junk etc. left
over from GMC and other upgrades etc. Also most of our spouses
just tolerate "the habit" of the GMC, airplanes, motorcycles,
computers, home improvement projects, old cars and tractors, etc.
Another collection or hobby would probably tip the scale toward
divorce. At least that is what would happen to me.

But who knows maybe it could be done. I would be happy to
just donate this stuff for others to buy at a low price. The
operator of the "GMC Pack Rat Central Club" could keep any profits.
I would just want to get my shipping expenses out of the deal.

I would have some stuff to donate:
1) GMC instrument panel - complete
2) original 120 VAC to 12 DC Power Converter
3) soon I hope to have a set of GMC wheel Covers to get rid of
4) and slightly used (about 50,000 miles I think) 455 exhaust manifolds

Rather than incur shipping costs to/from a central location, how about an
electronic bulletin board where we can post what we have for sale? The
interested parties could work out the details for the transactions.

For example, I have some new OEM exhaust components, but the cost of
shipping them to another part of the country, and then perhaps routing back
to my geographic area is probably more than they are worth.

This has been happening on a limited basis as some generous netters have
used the net to announce the availability of their surplus items. The
downside to the electronic BB is that some owners may not want to store the
surplus items. For example, the previous owner of my coach has been after
me to pick up the rear gaucho seats (replaced by permanent bed/mattress) but
I don't want to store them, and would just haul to the dump if there was no
immediate interest.

Lord help me, I don't need another project, but how about an online
consignment shop? We could have an online inventory of what's available and
the owner could either hang on to the parts or ship them(at his expense) to
whereever the central warehouse is. The owner sets the price and he(or she)
and GMCnet PRC split the proceeds less shipping.

I recently got a shopping cart running for a site I admin, and this is
definitely "do-able" with that application.

Hmm, taking GMCnet to the next level?

I know I am a pack rat too. I have been fighting the urge to take people up
on offers for spare parts like the dash board, spare wheel cover, etc..
While people have made generous offers of giving parts away, I want to pay
for them. If its a venue for parts, you know one exists, its free to both
buyers and sellers, and its versatile (ie; the ability to set minimum
acceptable price for example) Yahoo auctions. Their search engine seems
pretty good. I searched it for GMC Motorhome and it came back with hits on
the Hot Wheels car. It parts where listed as GMC Motothome Spare Parts -
xxxx I think we could all bookmark this and see what people have for
sale/trade etc. Just a thought. walter bright, 76 Glenbrook.

Sounds like a really great idea! Wonder who will step up to handle the
storage and do the book keeping? BTW, don't look at me! I live in a
condo......

Mike, I think my rear drum offer brought this really good idea back to life.
If that's the case, glad I played a small part (pun intended!) in that.
How's this? Since everyone reading these posts is hooked up on the net, why
not just ask one of the guys with some time to do so (and if I weren't
single-handedly trying to rescue us all from the hated INCOME TAX and IRS,
I'd take a shot at it) to serve as a clearing house for the items folks
would submit to the inventory list. This would eliminate the need for that
central storage facility and the rehandling involved in moving the items
from seller to buyer. I suspect most of us have enough room to keep the
items we might pull off our coaches, but only an affluent few (like Henry
and Heinz, to name but two :-)) have space for all that material.
Would also some fair manner of determining prices and perhaps just
"auctioning" them on the list would appeal to all you free market guys out
there. I don't think a communist would own a GMC, but there may be a few in
here (and ve vill find out who you are soon enuff...!)

There is only one place in the world for the rat pack. Near Hartsfield.
Everybody knows even God goes through there to get back to Heaven.{:>) For
you Northerners or Westerners, this is a private joke with all Southerners
for if we want to go anywhere by air, we first have to go to Hartsfield
Airport in Hot 'lanta then out to where we want to go.

This seems like the best idea list items that are available
and where they a located. If storage is impossible where
the materials are located then maybe they could be stored
at some other GMC owners near by.

I've been through there more times than I can even remember. And, many
times, I've also spoken to the man upstairs to help me get through one more
time. I didn't realize he was waiting on the tram too!

Also, my sister-in-law uses Delta Dash to ship her Airedale dogs all over
the country. They have good air freight rates.

Mark,
Seems like I met Him one time there. He was as confused as I was. Wonder
if Delta Dash feeds the animals peanuts, too. To extend this into a GMC
approved note, maybe Delta Dash could ship parts too.

Did that qualify?
