Mile marker 253 in Arizona has a petro gas station and around the block is a wal-mart. I stop there all the time on my way through to Calif. I also know of
one off of andy divine in kingman and I stay there. They have never asked me to leave and I am there along with a number of RVs and 18 wheelers. Worry not,
just stop and have a nice night sleep.

What great timing!

This weekend I was thinking that I should start a thread on places to park
for the night when just passing through. I do more traveling than camping
so I am always looking for a safe, quiet place to spend the night before
resuming my travels early the next morning. I would be interested in
hearing where people like to spend the night when they are just passing
through. If you have some suggestions as to where you like to park for the
night, please post them to the list.

It looks like we can make Wally-world the first entry on our list of good
overnight parking places. With any luck, maybe Wal-Marts competitors will
try to top them by offering full hookups in their parking lots :)

Wal-Mart is my favorite when I am just traveling.... Very expensive though,
I hit the sack and the wife hits the store. Some times costs me $100 to
sleep there.
I only had trouble in Oregon, One of the cities on the coast did not like
people stopping there rather than the $35 per night campground. So they
made Walmart put up no camping signs.

When we travel we also spend some significant time getting to and from
specific locations. IF there is a state or federal park on our way that we
want to see, we will make reservations for the night (the GMC come in handy
because it is short enough to fit into most parks). However, California
state parks with RV spots are often filled to capacity months in advance
for the more popular weeks.

We stop at Flying J and Petro quite a lot. Both are truck stops that cater
to RVers. Some of the stops run their PA system all night to announce when
showers are ready. Use ear plugs! Some of the stops have obvious places to
park. Others you'll have to ask soemone at the store where to park. Only
once have we been told that we could only park in a specific place - and it
was full of RVs.

K-mart and Walmart both generally offer overnighting.

There are also folks on the Black List who offer a spot to overnight.

Be aware that some cities have ordinances that prohibit overnighting except
at an RV park. We ran into this outside Indiannapolis at a truck stop. (our
son had the same problem in the area). And yes, I saw a local police
officer marking trucvk tires in the parking lot!

We always ask the store manager where we can park at K-mart & Walmart.
Sometimes they don't care, but often there is a section where RVs will be
out of the way and may have less noise etc. Our goal is to arrive before
they close and shop. This way we can get going before they open with our
fridge full and ready to go.

Other places to consider: Elks lodges sometimes have parking spots, as do
Masonic Temples.

Since we can't take all that much time to get from one place to another, we
tend to drive the interstates between destinations. So, truck stops work well.

I haven't had occasion to try it myself, but I've noted that a lot of
hospitals have RV parking. I wouldn't think it would be a problem to nose in
there for a night if there was plenty of room; I wouldn't want to displace
anyone who had someone in the hospital though.

if you are passing thru Tulsa go to the fairgrounds - full hookups 12
dollars per night but I was told if I need to come in late and leave
early 'no problem and no charge courtesy of the Tulsa Fair Grounds' -
about 4 miles off of I-44 - also has a free dump station available at
all times - also is next door to an amusement park if you are traveling
with kids - next door to baseball park and horse racing for the adults

A restaurant chain, mainly in the southeast US. S'posed to look like an
old general store.

The fairgrounds at Raleigh, N,C, have hook-ups - just check with the
security. They may charge you, and then again, they may not.
The Maryland State Fair at Tominium has electric hookups. Check with
security or if you get there early enough, the office.
If you belong to FMCA, check out the "Stoppin' Spots". Fellow members
often have full hook-ups for visitors.
I have used church parking lots of my demonition. And I've gotten a few
invitations for breakfast, too.

Chuck, as WAL MART driver I have slept along side many RV's at our stores including the ones in Arizona.Unless there is some kind of a local ordnance WAL MART
will always welcome you. Some cities have a noise ordance which would restrict you from using your generator during certain hours, especially in residential
areas.Although I have never been to Alaska I undrestand the store in Anchorage has hookups.
