Overheating in the mountains

Emery and Arch thanks for your Ideas . Haven't been back to mountains
yet but did confirm that my Dad's timing was set wrong as several
suggested. Also Arch your tip on vacuum advance turned out to be
correct. It was a 24 degree model. This brings up another question in
my mind about the centrifugal advance. The distributor could have been
changed out. I'll have to check it at RPM when I can get back over to
Dad's place. Keeping one GMC going is moderately taxing. Keeping two
going is tough !
