There's discrimination and then there's discrimination. Is any of it
acceptable?
At first we were stunned and confused, then we laughed before we got
pretty
annoyed.
A year ago, October, we were headed south, staying in Monterey at the
Monterey
Fairgrounds only 3 minutes from the bike trail allowing us to access
17-mile drive, Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and bay kayaking -
all by
bike. From there we were headed to Moro Bay. We called Bay Pines Travel
Trailerpark to make reservations. They had vacancies and proceeded to
take
our information as to time and date of arrival. They then asked the make
and year of our motorhome. We told them it was a 1973 GMC to which he
responded
that "we don't accept motorhomes over ten years old." I tried to reason
with him but he would make no exceptions and hung up. We had called this
campground
because the MorroBay State Park campground was full. Because of a time
constraint, we didn't pursue this rejection, but called the Morro Dunes
RV
Park. They also had vacancies and were friendly and had no problem with
our
"older" motorhome. We are curious to know if others have had similar
experiences and how they handled them.

Hi Ray. This is Chuck in Lompoc, just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Moro
Bay place you were trying to get into. I don't know if that was the one I
was in or not. Is it next to the place where the people buy their parking
spots? There is another one near there called "Montana de Oro" it is a
lovely place and it is a State Owned park, down the road to Hwy 1 are a
couple of other places. Are you a member of the Elks? They also have a
place right in Ocano, next door to Pismo Beach, we have places here in
Lompoc Elks too. If you get down this way from home give me a call maybe we
can attack them in pairs. I am retired and am usually looking for somebody
to do something with. Chuck 78 Eleganxza II (8050 736-7965 Home Cell is

I think we should all sind this guy pictures of our GMCs . Aparantly
this person does not know what are motorhomes look like. They sure look
better then these new boxs on wheels motorhomes they sell now. Covered
wagons even look more aerodynamic then most of these new motorhomes. I
think after this guy looked at a few hundred letters and pictures of
GMCs he would see that are motorhomes are not over the hill, and would
make the new motorhomes they let in look less modern. My 2 cents.

Ray and Elisa,
I agree, it's outrageous! Unfortunately, being a prejudiced jerk is not
illegal in most states, so sadly you probably can't sue them. (Although a
nasty letter from your lawyer might be enough to give 'em indigestion for a
day.) Maybe the ACLU would like to consider the class, age, and economic
discrimination aspects.???
I would recommend spreading their bad name (with all disparaging
information this side of legal slander) to any RVing organizations,
Newsgroups, magazines, etc. to which you belong. If you're a member of a
local GMC club, perhaps a shocked enquiry from your club would give the owners
further reason to rethink their stance. Maybe even a letter to the editor of
their local newspaper, just so the locals know what sort of sleazebag is doing
business in their fair city.
In the long run, discrimination costs them money, as it does any other
business. We just need to do whatever we can to up the price, and make that
cost more visible and immediate. BTW, we should demand that the editors of
campground guides either delete such restrictive sites, or note prominently
that about half of their readers will be turned away.

Hang in there!
