Does anyone know the history/origin of the GMC logo on the spare tire cover? The cover is an aftermarket part, right?

I don't know about the logo, but the original cover was a GM
accessory. I still have one in
the original box down in the basement.

It depends what cover you are talking about. There was an original fabric (vinyl?) cover which was original equipment but there have been aftermarket covers
such as the fiberglas ones made by Frank Jenkins.

I'm referring to the fiberglass one with the rounded GMC logo that I've never seen anywhere else.

Christo,

I believe that Frank Jenkins created that when he made the mold. It is not identical to any other "GMC" that I have seen.

You could call or email Frank Jenkins and ask him how he came up with the logo.

Frank made a few of them with the GMC in red plastic so that it can be used
as a brake light.

Very interesting - I have not seen one w/
