Jim, while I was travelling in Oregon last summer none of the gas
stations would let me pump my own fuel. Is this a make-work rule or is
there some valid reason for this ruling by the fire marshalls.

In 99.99%of the gas stations you visit if you don't pump your own fuel
you will sit by the pump till hell freezes over! But not in Oregon.

Dave.....The state of Oregon has always felt that it was dangerous to pump
your own fuel and passed a law to that effect. The oil companies put it on
the ballot over and over to defeat it, but it's voted down each time. The
only people who can pump their own are cardlock customers like me who have
taken the 30 second safety course by the cardlock owner.

The, you can't pump your own fuel in Oregon rule is true. The way it was
explained to me was that it was more of a liability thing than anything
else. Who knows, maybe it solves a lot of bonehead mistakes.
