Ontario Canada question...

People in Ontario have been looking at my GMC for possible purchase. They
called an insurance company and got this response:

Motorhomes 20 years and older require the following.

*** *Working stove and fridge, bathroom facilities and have sleeping
facilities. *

****Recent Safety (Last 36 days)*

****Propane Inspection (includes lines, connections, appliances, tank,
inspectors name, signature, and TSSA licence #) most RV dealers do these
types of inspections. (Last 30 days). Disconnecting the propane will not
make the unit qualify as working cooking facilities are necessary to bind.*

****If the unit has a value of more than $20,000 a full appraisal is
required.*

Has anyone in Ontario ever heard of this sort of horse droppings?

Not that mine is insured for the road at the moment but it will be soon.....the appraisal stuff i can see if you want it insured for replacement value
or if its StateFarm [they want appraisals on everything].

As far as a propane inspection i can see them asking for it as they want to make sure their risk is negated...lol...but seriously i can see me having
to do it and honestly its one of the reasons the automotive sector went away from propane as we had to do inspections yearly...not a big deal really
they test for leaks and so on....probably money well spent ust for the piece of mind.

I suspect they have a definition of what "motorhome" is to them verse "trailer" so it must have.....just like a car, any accessory added must work; so
fog lights, power windows etc.

Recent safety....all used vehicles being registered from a sale, out of province or not, must be safety inspected at time of plating.....one can
register a vehicle as "none safe" but will not be issued a plate till done so.....your potential purchasers can go to the NovaScotia DVM and get a
transit permit that is good for 10 days or travel permit [if your coach is currently still has a valid inspection sticker] good for 30 days then drive
it home.

Ontario?
I just had it inspected in July...doesn't do much good...lol

That's perfect Mike because they can get a travel permit good for 30 days.....so they can drive it home and to the shops to do the inspections....they
have to get it inspected here no matter what, your valid inspection makes it way easier for them.

As for insurance it depends on the company.....if they were to call there insurance provider just after the sale they could have it added to their
current policy and get it home that way.

Plus your recent inspection means that all the criteria that they inspect for is good.....nice thing is that the Ministry of Transport inspection in
NS is using the same guide as us in Ontario. So in theory, baring a total misfit looking at it here or a greedy shop, it should pass without anything
needed. : :d ..... bonus for the buyer!!!!

Did you buy the Hughs GMC that a older couple was selling for around 7-8
and had a cracked windshield?

Just curious..what kind of shape was it in? If you didn't get a windshield
yet, you can get the WAGS numbers and do your own shopping. Mine came out
of Montreal about 8 years ago.

Yup that's the one....the exterior is in good shape, mechanical is ok....could use paint as its getting thin but the interior was perfect [everything
was re-upholstered in 2009 but the owners covered everything all the time].

Sadly it has a cracked drivers windshield [ the sellers weren't to happy about it either as it was perfect before storage i guess] so i need that to
get it safetied here.

We drove it back putting about 1400km on it over 2 days only thing amiss was the battery isolator so i had to play battery swap all the way
home....but in the big picture, for what we paid for it [less than asking], i cant complain.

I HAVE A 1977 sob IN Ontario. I have 3rd party liability only through WAYFARER in Beaverton Ont.
I had t have a propane inspection to get insurance from them even though I only have liability.
My thought are considering how old it is and how often it is driven, if the sky falls on it..
oh well.
Obviously it had to be safetied as that is a licencing thing in
Ontario.
