I have this Birchaven that was gone through by the Coop seven years ago, including a one-ton front end. It has almost no miles. Like less than 2000.

I have been slowly taking it out of mothballs. i got it running with the old gas, I plan to drain the tanks now that i can move it.

Earlier test drives it seemed to run great and handle great. Just took it for a longer ride, about 3 miles, got up to freeway speed.

I felt shaking through the steering wheel, like something was very loose.

ANy sugestions where to start?

thanks

Flat spots on the tires?

If it's been sitting, probably the tires are out of shape. I would take the fronts off and have them balanced. The rears would also need it also. Do
the fronts and see what if anything changes.

How old are tires? If nylon they flatspot badly sitting. Sometimes they will drive out smooth after a while. Sometimes. How much old gas? I’d
just add some fresh so it’s flammable again and use it up. Otherwise what do you do with it once drained.

Tires are seven years old.

I may not have been clear in my description. The shaking started when i got up to speed but it persisted after i slowed down.

It almost felt like i had a flat.

I have never experienced running a vehicle after such prolonged sitting.

THe One Ton conversion was installed at the COOP, the coach was driven 750 miles here and hardly drive again since 2013.

Are we saying there is not a likely component failure attributed to time sitting or an installation error ?

Oh wait, this is making sense.

Right front tire was flat- slow leak, takes a few days to fall. So when it's aired up hard the flat spot goes away but when it starts to go down the
flat spot shows up?

I did not harden the tire before this short test drive.

I'll try it again when i have time.

Maybe some time in the last 7 years the tire started going down and PO put some fix a flat in it and didn’t drive it and over time it turned into a
wad of goop.

Another possibility? Tread/belt separation?

If it sat any length of time on a flat or very low tire the tire is probably scrap. It could even be dangerous to drive
on. I would suggest you take the wheel/tire off the vehicle and take it to a tire shop. Tell them to inflate the tire
in their truck tire cage and stand back. After couple of days have them check the tire and spin it on their balancer.

I just went trough this with a tire. It was visibly obviously ruined and I scrapped it without trying to reinflate it.

An exploding tire of any size is DANGEROUS.

Just a caution on old gas - it can sometimes create varnish and result in stuck valves and bent pushrods both in the coach engine and the Onan.

Oh yeah, the tires are absolutely scrap. But i'd like to work the bugs out before i drop $1000 on new rubber.

I really should drain the tanks though.

Dave,

Sounds to me like the tires are a pretty big bug and easily fixed. I don't see how you can diagnose anything front end without good tires.

I would gladly have paid $1000 for the one tire if it would have prevented my blowout. Cost me a lot more than a grand...
