I've been trying to follow the recent thread on disconnecting the Onan voltage
reg. wires on my 4kw original Onan.

I still have the original buzz box. Do I still need to disconnect my Onan
regulator wires? I understand there may be runability problems if left
connected.

Thanks

Since the buzz box is a synchronous converter, it will produce very litttle output
when powered by the Onan. You're probably better off leaving well enough alone.

Hi Edgar.

Doesn't the 'buzz box' have a ferroresonant transformer?

Yes you should remove the wires to the Onan charger.

Read on my web page for a full description and pictures on how to do the
dirty deed.

===============================

What it amounts to is that the buzz box needs 60Hz to produce any output. The Onan is always "hunting", occasionally "floating by" 60Hz,
thereby producing a small output. Years ago I contacted the manufacturer explaining I obtained no charge when running the Onan; but the
converter worked properly from shore power. He couldn't understand how that could be. So much for informed factory personnel. Shortly
thereafter I discovered the facts.
