Duane,
I have a couple of questions:
Last year you sent me information on getting my control board
refurbished. I lost that stuff. Can you resend the details on what I
should do? I have a after market control board installed now and want
to use that as a backup to the official OEM board that is not working.
Also,
I've had problems with the governor all along. I've replaced the
governor spring and ball joint, plugs, plug wires, points and condenser
with official Onan parts. All that fixed the original problem which was
when the load on the Onan changed, it would sometimes continue to run at
the original power setting. As an example, if the water heater was on
and I turned it off, the Onan would keep running at the same throttle
setting, causing the RPM to increase, causing the voltage to also
increase greatly. I fried my microwave and toasted a surge protector
because of that. I think the problem was a worn ball joint with a spot
on it that would stick sometimes. It doesn't do that anymore.
Now my latest problem is that Onan has started to be hard to start. I
installed a remote primer switch and find that sometimes I have to hold
it in for maybe a minute before it will start. Then when it starts I
have to keep holding the primer button in for another minute or so
before it will run on its own. I wonder if I have a bad fuel pump?
Also, it will run fine for 5 minutes or so and then if the load
increases (as when the AC compressor kicks on) it will stumble (RPM and
voltage will decrease greatly) and then after about 5 seconds it will
pick back up again. If I shut off all load to the Onan (turning master
breaker off in the electrical compartment) it will stop running
completely. This problem just started a few days ago. Carburator out
of adjustment?
I think my problems are fuel related. What do you think?
TIA,
