Onan Starter Bracket

Some time back someone posted to check to make sure that the Onan
motor mounts had not sagged. If the mounts sag the starter hits the
bottom of the enclosure and reportedly breaks the starter bracket.

I checked mine and sure enough it was bouncing into the bottom
of the enclosure during the starting process.

Heinz indicated that he notched the bottom of his enclosure.
I notched the top and used washers to raise the generator mounts.

Anyhow with the motor mounts fixed now not only do I suspect
that my starter bracket might last .................but starting the Onan=

is much
less disturbing to the ears.

Hi All,
Can the Ragusa Bracket be installed without very much disassembly ? My
manuals are in the couch, and I guess it might be a good idea to order one
now, and install as preventative measure, I just don't want to take half the
generator apart.

It's not too bad, as I recall. I just finished servicing mine today, so I'm
afraid if I slide it out something else will break...

As I recall, you can sort of take apart the housing around the fan/flywheel
and change it 'through the hole'.

PS - no shiny spot under the rear of the starter. I looked this morning.

My apologies to the list for the misleading information in my previous post
on this subject.

Way back when, my brother-in-law was helping me on the first Onan holy wars.
We had received the parts and he started doing the bracket install. I went
to our neighborhood NAPA for parts and he was done in the 20 minutes it took
me to make the trip.

>From that, I incorrectly assumed that changing the bracket was an 'easy
fix'. I called him this morning to confirm that it was more of a 'tear down,
then put back together' job that I remembered.

I'm sorry for any confusion. In the future, I'll get my facts straight
before typing.
