Bruce,

I have never been into that end of an Onan, but I have designed a lot of strange stuff.

Were I you, I would call Jim Miller in Hamilton OH, and ask if he has any ideas. As he has rewound fields, he has to have seen this and may have an
idea how to replace it.

That clip appears to be an rotation stopped for the outer race of the bearing. I am amused that they thick so highly of the part.

The only critical part of it is the spring temper. I am guessing that the Onan bearing has two cuts ground into the outer race and that spring is
supposed to hook into those and ride into the end bell when during assembly. It sure was a cheap answer 50 years ago.

As it is a double sealed bearing and open at the back there has to be some way to put something in there that will serve. I will have to look at what
I have when I am out in my barn next. I don't think I have one loose, but I may have an idea if I look at the beast.

We replaced the rear bearing with a standard bearing and ground the outer race to fit the clip. That sucker was stuck in the bell tight! At least some
of the newer Onans don't use the clip and use a chemical bond like loctite. Here is a image of what it looked like.

When I have the old clip I will take a die grinder and make two small notches (one on each side) in the outer race of the new bearing and put the
clip on. If I didn't have a clip I would just fashion one up out of a piece of tough steel and do the same thing. That bearing doesn't have a lot to
do back there and just about anything will keep it from spinning. Heck, you could probably assemble the machine and drive a chopstick into the slot in
the bell housing to keep the bearing from spinning.

If it were me I would not loctite it. It is difficult enough to remove the rear bell housing when disassembling the machine..loctite sure wouldn't
help.

The bearing is a 6206 IIRC.

There is one of those
Clips in my garage. It went flying when i took my bearing off my old onan. I could not find it, but my garage is a mess. I parted out the rest of
that onan. I knew that clip was going to be an issue when it came time to putting that onan back together, but that is no longer going to happen.

If i ever see that clip again, i will make sure I mark it and keep it.

Jim has your answer it looks like.
