Hi

Been working on remodeling my '73 painted desert on
and off for the last month. I run the generator while
I'm working inside the M/H. All was well till about 2
days ago. My 4KW Onan BF spec A -- Is having a bit
of a rough time with all this 100 degree heat here in
Daytona Florida. I have been sliding the unit out --
to try to let it breath more -- but -- under a full
A/C load it will start to miss -- then bog down --
most times it will fully recover -- but I'm sure it's
putting a strain on my A/C compressor-- when it slows
down and flutters.

. Only about 300 hours on this 1973 Onan BF spec A
. Have already cleaned the carb. and carb filter
. put test lite on coil --it appears that I never lose
voltage to the coil when it starts to bog down
(no control board problem -- Thank GOD)
. Have ordered new filter (that's in the fuel pump)
. checks air filter -- ok
. checked breather (appears ok)
. Installed new plugs (.025" GAP)

note -- when it bogs -- if I lean out the mixture
screw
it recovers almost immediately --but if i
leave it at that leaner setting- it eventually
starts running rough.

Have new points to install --BUT -- is this some kind
of MEAN SPITEFULL engineering on Onan part --- the
point cover -FACES THE WRONG WAY -- you can not see
the points unless you have a mirror -- what the HELL
were these ONAN guys thinking. --has anyone figured
out a way to replace these points and adjust them ---
OR IS THIS JUST ANOTHER CRUEL ONAN JOKE ????

Some have converted to electronic ignition.

Last time I ordered an ONAN part I inquired, but Onan makes various kits for
various models and does not list one for the 4.0 in our GMC's. If someone knows
which kit (Onan part #?) can be adapted to work would you please post?
