While we were camping over the weekend, my Onan suddenly stopped producing an AC
voltage, just as I turned on the roof AC. The genset's engine continued to run
normally but the AC output went dead. The problem is not with the circuit
breaker in the J-box, nor the circuit breaker at the genset. There simply is no
output at the genset.

Anyone know what the most likely problem is?

This is a '77 Model 4.0 with only 235 hours on it. No prior problems.

Richard

Probably the Bridge Rectifer in the generator. About a $10.00
part if you look around. Someone here will give you the
part number. Your supposed to remove the genset to replace
the part.
Good Luck,

I want to report back that the bridge rectifier was indeed the problem, and your
tips for replacing it allowed me to do it myself. I can't imagine why the
recommended procedure is to remove the genset in order to access the rectifier
but glad I didn't have to pay an Onan tech to remove and replace mine!
