"Then I decided to drain the crankcase. Got my trusty
3/4" combo wrench and applied a CCW torsion to the
drain plug; it came right out. But it didn't un-thread from
the boss. Oh, no, that would have been too easy. The
entire boss came out of the pan. Looks like it was just
pressed in. I guess I'll get to R&R the pan and silver
solder or braze the boss back in. Guess I need the
practice."

The sump is 2 parts. The gasket between the lower
pan and the upper sump is below the oil level so the
seal is even more critical than a normal pan gasket.

When I had mine apart I found that the replacement
gasket was $105.00 Canadian from Onan. I was able
to clean up the original gasket and reuse with blue
silicone on both sides.

Worked for me and judging by the silicone that was
on the gasket when I took it apart I wasn't even the
first to reuse this gasket.

Good luck.
