There was a Dealer Service Information Bulletin #76-IM-14 Dated 6/76 .
New type dipstick & tube for 4K Onan. This new style dipstick is a screw
in type replacing the former push-in style for the purpose of
eliminating oil leakage. It is possible for the push-in type to work
loose allowing oil to escape or blow out while the generator is running.

When I first got my coach I had the Generator pulled out and running
while coach was sitting level in my driveway. Walked away from it for
awhile and returned just in time to put out the flames . The dipstick
had worked its way loose from vibration, blew oil on to the manifold and
I was a busy fella for the next few minutes. If the generator was not
pulled out or if I were on the road ??

I followed up on the DSI bulletin and switched to the new style fill
tube and dipstick but it ain't cheap (of course its Onan). I have the
part No's if you are interested. I will say that if I had it to do over
again I would probably try to fashion some sort of clip to hold the old
style push-in dipstick in place and spent the $70 elsewhere.
(Didn't know the price till the parts came in) HTH
