Some while back someone listed several filters that would work for the Onan
6000. I bought the Fram but it was too long. If anyone has the list would
you please show it again??
Thanks

I'm not sure if my solution will work on all models, but on my 75 PB I have
been using the same filter that works on my 1986 VW Jetta. The fram # is
2870A. Again, I'm not sure if all Onan's have the same filter setup, so
don't shoot me if I'm wrong.

A Motorcraft FL-271, NAPA 1792, and Purolator FCO-252, should be the
equivalent to the Fram PH 2870 that I use in the generator. Onan number is
122-0445.

also remember that the substitute filters do not have the bypass valve that
protects the Onan in cold weather. I bought my Onan filter in Albq. for $7
so I am not sure it is worth the savings.

All automotive types have bypass valves. Just because it's an Onan
doesn't make it special just more expensive.

Please tell me if I am wrong, but this is not the correct number for the
Purolator. This was the number listed in the cross reference manual and
I believe its a mis-print. It has shown up here on the list several
times and people I asked (at a Philly Pep-Boys) tell me there is no such
model #. I used a purolator and it was a all numeric #, if my memory
is correct, it was 520252. The box lists at least the FRAM as a cross
reference. If the FCO-252 is correct, I would like to know so I can
pull the other one off my Onan. Thanks, walter bright, 76 GB.

Walter

Sorry I can't clear the air for you on this filter number. It's not one
that I use nor have tried to obtain. I just recorded the number from an
earlier Onan filter discussion here.
