I'm new to the net but have owned my 1977 Palm Beach for 10 years.
Reading your E-mail Sat 20 Dec 1997 about the Onan Generator oil problem.
It doesn't sound like you have to overhual the engine. If the oil leak
just started which happed to me, it is the oil pressure safety switch
which is located behind the flywheel. My switch leaked so bad one day that
sprayed oil on the muffler and all I could see was smoke coming from the
rear of the coach. I had to shut it down immediately so no harm was done.
You wonder why your generator is hard to start after a long lay over. The
oil pressure has to build up to close the switch before it will start.
Also if the oil pressure drops down below the switch setting the unit will
shut off to prevent engine damage. Check that switch it may be leaking and
also complete a compression check on the engine, that will give you some
idea if the engine needs overhaul. A puller similar to a steering wheel
puller will remove the flywheel with ease. Hope this helps you out if it
