The generator does not put out 220. The leads to your breaker panel are
split from the output of the genset. That is the two cables that come off
the genset divide and feed 2 sides of your panel. This gives you 110 on
each side but not 220. I was a little confused at first but it was
explained to me that 2 x 110 does not equal 220. Your genset gives out a
ton of amperage (50 I think) .This many amps gives you enough to run two
13500btu air conditioners. The only way to get 220 out of your genset is
to double the rpms but this will make very very short your genny life.

Darren;

I will check with my design engineer, but I believe the genset can be
configured for 220. There ar two coils on the generator and they can be
wired to put out two separate legs of 110 that is used for 220 using two hots
and a ground. Many gensets are wired that way and actually have a 220 outlet
built into them. I will double check, but I am sure that this is the case at
least with my 6kw Onan.

If you double the rpm's, you also double the frequency from 60 HZ to 120
HZ. Goodbye everything!!!
