Onan/Generac transplant

That hardly seem fair , you are willing to spend $2,000 on a generator that
has almost no service stations and hard to find parts. While even an
electronic ignition module would do wonders for your Onan and that alone is
$ 120.

What am I saying...... yep you should throw away the Onan and send it
to me.. sounds like a plan ;>)

Nah I have only one data point...... I have a friend with a newish large
pusher SOB. I had to laugh when he told me he spent $500 getting his
Genrac fixed and the Shop that fixed it told him to get an Onan because
there were more repair facilities and parts available for the onan if he
was going to be traveling around the nation. (I would guess since Onan is
older.) He was as unhappy with his genrac as you are with the Onan. Just
made me happy to have the Onan.

My position on all of this GMC stuff is, it would be much better to have
all new ..... New things don't seem to break as often and don't need maint.

Honda is an excellent small engine manuf. Their Motorcycle and industrial
engines are the best. ( just cause my Harley leaks like a sieve)

I am a bit late in reading this one (I was on the road doing what the GMC=20

I don't know how big the battery slide is. When I mounted my Genrac, I=20
moved the battery to the front and mounted the Genrac toward the rear. That=
=20
gives me easy access to the batteries and, if I remove the batteries, I can=
=20
access three sides of the Genrac. I think this arrangement will still work=
=20
with a slide-out battery tray.

Someone commented about parts availability for the Genrac. It looks a lot=20
like the Genrac I have uses a Briggs & Stratton Industrial/Commercial=20
engine. I don't know that for sure but some of the parts on my engine have=
=20
the Briggs logo stamped on them. If they really are using a Briggs engine I=
=20
doubt there will be any problems finding parts.

I am sure the new Onans are better units than the Genrac. But at less than=
=20
half the price the Genrac seems like the better deal. Especially given the=
=20
bad taste I have with the way I have been gouged on parts prices from Onan.=
=20
Sure, I would expect parts for a 25 year old genset to cost more. But two,=
=20
three and even four times what I would expect to pay for replacement parts=
=20
for other air cooled engines? Not for me thank you. So its Good Bye and=20
good luck to Onan. Even if my Genrac only lasts half as long I will still=20
come out ahead.
