Rob,
My 4KW Onan didn't run when I got it. No fuel. I cleaned the fuel system.
Then too much fuel, bad needle & seat, parts missing. Then it ran, only it
died when I kicked on the overhead A/C. New points, that was a challenge.
Runs great. Looks like the job's finished. Give it the first bath of its
life. Then no power. It was only making 5V AC, not 115V AC. Cleaned dirty
commutator, repaired sticking brushes & broken or loose terminals. Ohmed out
breaker and everything else. Found bad (shorted) rectifier bridge. That's
where the $8 came in. Finally I used a frequency (Fluke 78) meter to dial in
the RPM to 60 Hz. I have a hard time believing that washing it would wipe
out the rectifier, but it did. I still let it warm up before hitting it with
the big load, but now "momma" can fire it up from inside the coach. When
she's happy and we're happy. BTW I used the NET for a lot of advise on what
to do. You'll have to choose what's wrong & what's right for your situation.
