Onan flipping the ring gear success

Recently I got a 6KW power drawer generator as a basket case. The ring gear was munched which was probably why it was removed. Anyway we tapped the
ring gear off the flywheel and reinstalled it flipped over to get better teeth on the starter pinion side. Left the flywheel outside where it was 40
degrees and heated the ring gear in the oven at 400F. It then just dropped on and stuck when it cooled (15 seconds or so). With a 4 inch angle grinder
we ground tooth bevels like was on the munched side for starter pinion entry. It seems to work with the starter OK now.

That's good information. Did you have to heat the ring gear a little while tapping it off the flywheel?

I haven't seen my flywheel yet but new rubber mounts are in hand and that is on the list. My starter sounds absolutely horrible while cranking,
although it seems tight with no wobble. I'm thinking my ring gear may be chewed up as well.

No heat on removing. Actually it came off pretty easy working a blunt punch around it a few times.
