onan field coil wanted

I finally pulled apart my onan, and the field coil is bad. I located where it where a wire was eaten through, but broke off one of the leads into
the coil in the process. hold them together and I get the 38 ohms, but i am not sure how a person could even go about repairing it, especially where
I broke off the feed lead, and what other failures maybe short behind it.

So I am now looking at my options..... fix, replace, or??

I know my options for replacing and that is a possible route. Even if I do replace, It would be nice to fix my onan as the engine runs well, and
could go to someone else.

I will be contacting Coop and probably Sirum to see what they might charge for a used coil, if they have one. bugger is heavy for shipping.

Any thoughts?

There is a guy in Ohio, Jim Miller Jr, who is doing rewindings out of better materials. I don't know how active he is after his father passed.
Considering the originals lasted 40 years, a good rewinding would probably outlive the motorhome. My Onan had enough other issues that I decided it
wasn't worth it to go this route. But if you have a really good one, and since you are pulling it out anyway you can really give it a solid refresh,
it might be worth it. I spoke with Jim once or twice while weighing the options and was really impressed. Had my Onan been in better shape all around
I wouldn't have hesitated.

A picture of what your problem is might be very helpful.

If a rewound one is in order, I believe that the originals were in aluminum while his are done in copper.

Please post a picture so we can see what you are dealing with.

Most any industrial motor rewinders could do the rewind for you. Just tell them that you want better insulation class wire than what was in there.

We have a unit that was rewound , or good used ones here in CA.
