Richard, Gene and all who have done the pointless ignition upgrade to the
Onan. How much do you cut off to clear the intake manifold? Looks like it is
on the base mounting plate, correct?

Also the pictures in Chuck Aulgur's handout that Gene passed along
http://www.gmcws.org/Tech/onan_electronic_ignition/onan_electronic_ignition.
html
does show the kit with a mounting plate. I have the old backwards facing
point setup so would I need the newer plate that's not in the kit
(P/N160-1219)?

Any other gotchas to be worried about? Does the Kit have any docs? Easy to
see and set the timing @ 21 degrees? Etc.

Thanks, guys!

Yes you will need a new mounting plate

No you don't cut the plate, you cut the adjustment slider on the sliding
part of the new assembly. The article tells how.

Don't forget to file the part in the article.

First Set the timing using the light like Emery says so you see the little
line in the hole. Then make the mod, and set the timing again using the
timing light. It is a little tricky holding the new solid state point set
while cranking to get the gen to run. We set the adjustment bolt just
snug, and tap it back and forth to get the timing correct. Read Emery's
article also. Pictures there.

Hi Gene,

I am confused now, you mean I still need to order a new monting plate from
Onan to go with the package of parts I got from the buy to complete the
instalation? (the GMC is cached 2,200 miles away from me right now with all
my GMC stuff). Did use the Onan alot the past 4 weeks and it ran
flawlessly. Glad I decided to keep it.

Thanks Gene,

You have to read this article,

http://www.gmcws.org/Tech/onan_electronic_ignition/onan_electronic_ignition.html

if you have the old points on your Onan, you need a new base plate, the
article shows you how to tell...... ;>)
