"I've got 12.62 vdc at the battery and every terminal
on the onan that'll show power. If it's a frayed wire,
it's completely broken now."

Bill one of the problems I had on mine (too many
to list but it is all better now) had similar results.

When the power drawer is slid in and out the battery
cable moves.

The insulation on the cable and eventually the
strands of wires had broken until the battery
cable was no more than about 14 gauge.

Somebody before me decided to cover the damage
with tape.

The Onan threw lots of oil over the patch and
dirt collected to insure that I could not see the tape.

The result was 12 Volts everywhere there should be
until the starter drew electricity.

Then the voltage dropped enough so that there was
nothing at the coil to provide spark.

Once it was running and there was no starter draw
the coil saw voltage again.

Good luck

Finally with a clean overhauled Onan that runs as it should

Hi Gary

That's a good point. Presently I've only got the probe ends for my
vom. I'll get some clamp terminals for it and see what effect the starter
has on voltage.

I'm still bothered that the onan dies when I remove that jumper from 9 to 5
or from the + battery terminal to the + coil terminal though.

Thanks
