Searching for a serviceable Electric Choke for 6000kw Onan. This part is shown in the Operator's Manual but does not appear in the Parts Manual section, so I do not have a p/n. Any leads or suggestions would be appreciated.

That is a Sisson choke used by chrysler and others. The last one I got going was a ground issue because the can that encloses the electro magnet was loose and that's where the coil grounds. It was erratic in operation.
here is a drawing of what is inside. Don't know here you would get another.

Thanks. Yes, the can is jiggly and occaisionally grounds, so the dependability is that it won't work all the time.

Tonight I found this info in some forum that identified the part number for all other uses:
A. The Onan original p/n is #153A233 or p/n 153-0223
B. NSN (National supply number) 2910009630871
C. p/n #VF87A by Wis*Con Motors

Then I found a NOS one on eBay under a Wis*Con Motors p/n search. Pricey, but makes everything happy I hope.

Here is an image of the ground work around. Drilled and tapped the magnet core for a dedicated ground. the insulation on the positive tab was pretty much gone so it was moved also. It now workssisson.webp

I removed the bottom(?) can containing the electromagnet windings by bending back the locking tabs, then removed the original frayed insulation at the tail end of the wire with fresh insulating material.
Also replaced the crumbling mica? insulation layer around and on top of the windings with sheet plastic.

Works perfectly now.

I'm not sure it would, as the choke only engages momentarily - once the genny fires up, it disconnects.

Larry,
What is the intended choke pull-off delay, and what is the intended choke pull-off rate? If the requirements are known, it shouldn't be too hard to put together some Rs, Cs, and Qs on a board that could make this happen.

Nothing is easy. The old bolts were soaked for the last week with PB Blaster, but we figured they may shear, which of course they did. The old mounting plate cleaned-up on with the wire wheel and the new part is ready to bolt on IF I can drill out and re-tap the holes. I need a GMC Motorhome Genie.
