Wass there a towing option for the FWD Oldsmobile/Cadillac? What was the
towing capacity for these vehicles? What was the final drive ratio? I have
looked some and not found anything I trust.

I can't guarantee this info without a lot of research, but my understanding
is
that GM used a 3:21 ratio in 66-67, then went to a 3:07 from 68-72 and from
73 to 78 the standard became 2:73 with 3:07 available as a towing option.

Ask Emery on how it was to drive a 2.73 gear in his GMC.

There was also a 'towing' version of the transmission pan. I have only seen a photo of this variant. The photo showed a deeper pan with tubing running
front to back, increasing the surface area exposed to air.

Tom,

I remember seeing that pan offered for sale years ago. Do not know if it is still available and have not been able to located it at any of the sites on the web. I think that Caspro used to sell that version when they were still in business and it might have been made by Transdap. I was not able to find my old Caspro catalog and if anyone has any further information please post.

Because our transmission has been out of production for so long available pans are very limited. Jim K has 2 pans for sale, the Ragusa pan

and the Applied GMC Aluminum Pan
http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/1602

I also found this one made by PML, it is stock capacity.

That was an aftermarket item years ago but they didn’t sell enough to stay in business very long.

I believe I have one of those at home. I'll try to remember to take a
photo of it in a few weeks when we get back there.

I ran one of those "tube ventilated" TH425 pans for years & probably still
have one -- in GA, not IA.
