Old Zip Dee awning refurbishing

So I have I believe a original Zip Dee awning and thought I’d buy a few parts that may need to be replaced because of its age. The main patio awning seems to retract a little weak. Is thats because the spring is weak or is it my winding of it needs redoing?

One way to find out. If it's only a little weak the odds are good that the torsion spring just needs to be cranked up a bit more.

I very much appreciate that Zip Dee has reasonable prices on replacement parts, excellent customer support and that if you take care of them their awnings last forever.

Years ago a Little Giant ladder rep gave me a tip for making the aluminum parts slide well without getting them oily - said to use Lemon Pledge furniture polish. It leaves a thin waxy film that doesn't pick up dirt and grime. I've been doing that ever since with all of my sliding aluminum.

I liked watching Laurie Burton getting so into the Derby, made it way more fun! There wasn't one at the Waynesville NC GMCMI this Spring. I missed it and hope it returns.

Disassemble, clean the poop out of all the parts, inside and out, use Scotchbrite or very fine sandpaper, polish aluminum, spray lubricant on all moving parts.

I have a very weathered pair of Zip Dee awnings, with most all of the parts for both sides, that has been a round tuit job for several years. You're inspiring me to get to it... keep it up!
