The Boot.
Changing the oil, I found the passenger outside CV boot was torn. This is
the same one I had to re-band 3 times to get it to stop leaking. This boot
was changed last year during the front end up grade. In retrospect I think
it was old inventory at the time. There were no marks on the boot, it was
just faulty. It was a black boot but I think it was plastic.
Since I am leaving soon, for Or, I determined to install a split boot until
I get to Or. The first one I got was the wrong size , I found after I had
cut off the failed boot. The tear was too large to patch. I went to the
local parts store and was buying the split boot in a very yellow plastic
package ( obviously old inventory ) when I tried to straighten the boot out
to compare the size it literally crumbled in my hands. It split in about 4
places... the parts guy said they don't get much call for these.... What do
you think would have happened if I had hit the road with that piece of junk
on my drive line??
I inquired at my GMC dealer, and he had to order the boot --- "don't stock
old Toro stuff"....
No thanks, I ordered from Cinnabar over night UPS. They had the drive line
bolts also. No problem. Somehow I am sure their inventory is going to be
much fresher than my local GMC dealer.
I AM GLAD CINNABAR IS THERE !!!!
