I got hslf way to the GMC rally in St Cloud, so about 30 miles, level ground .maybe made a small speed correction but no big change in thrittle position.
She went bang then no transmission. Pulled into a convenient park and awaiting attempt 2 at a tow.

The axles ate still bolted on. There are no visible holes in the case no leaking fluids.

In any gear is whines and sounds terrible.
Park doesnt work, i almost put it in the lake lol

Ill get towed home and do a trans swap in the driveway.
The question is where to get a transmission. Is there a manny tranny nearby?

That sucks Keith.

If park isn't working I'd be looking for a possible different issue. Might have lost a CV or the differential. Parking pall 'should' hold it even with
a bad trans.

Keith,

We need to know more about your drivetrain: All OEM? Age of CV's? Any
previous problems? Does noisy in "all gears" include in neutral, park?

Sounds like a drive chain inside the transmission. Not a good thing.

Keith

I just had Manny ship a transmission from his place in San Jose to a transmission shop in Brownwood Tx.
I drove my GeoTracker 850 miles back to my home by Denver. I just drove back to Brownwood today and picked it up. All is fine. We’ll start back to home with the GMC towing the Tracker on Saturday morning.

You had better check your final drive, you lost park, and that is on the output shaft.

Keith,

It has been years for me, but as I remember, the parking teeth are on the output flange. That is the last part before the final drive. It doesn't
all has to come out, but it might be easier. It could be the pinion shaft in the final drive or the output shaft of the transmission, so get ready.
A transmission alone might not get it.

If you need a Manny trans, we should have one we can ship out Friday. Speak
with Nick or Gary.
Manny is at a Rally over the weekend.

Should it be our 3.70 final drive, we will cover it under warranty. Don't
care who bought it or from who. When you have over 3,000 units out there
and seldom have issues, I want to take care of it .

Thanks Matt and Jim and everyone. I just got it home and parked. I need to figure out a way to determine what failed, but I suppose the final drive has to come out one way or another

Keith,
There is a good transmission guy that lives and works in Ramsey Mn. Name is Steve Turgason. His company is Transformation Performance. He has done a
lot of 425's for GMC'rs in the upper midwest area. Phone # is 763-755-1134.

I have two parts transmissions if you need parts. Call me for more info.

Sounds just like mine 2 years ago, bang then the whirring sound and no park. The pinion had went out in an old FD and cocked the input shaft sideways
and busted the side out of the female splined output shaft of the tranny. Just from my experience. This was real fun since it happened on a hill and
no parking brake. That's why I keep wheel chocks inside the fridge door.

Pulling the differential cover will probably expose the problem. Really a simple first step after confirming all CV's are sound. Certainly don't
condemn the trans yet, do a little elementary checking first.

Sounds the same. So did it require a full rebuild?

No worry Jim said he would warranty it if it is a 370 unit pull the cover and you will know for sure which one is the problem.

Fixed.
The problem was that the drivers side is bolted on and the bolt came loose, the stub shaft worked it's way out until bang.
Easy enough fix, just unbolt the axle, reassemble the stub shaft with locktite and bolt the flange back on.

I did pull the diff cover and it looked fine, no glitter.
Time for a fluid change anyway 🙂

I took a video, you can see how far the shaft is sticking out and when I turn the wheel the spider gears don't turn

Thanks for sharing the solution to the problem, Keith.

That gives us another thing to look for if we ever have those symptoms.
