I think if you pined these two subjects down you would see there are two
different things you are talking about. Oil restrict ors are in the
bottom of the engine and keep the oil on the bearings where the oil
belongs rather that forcing it up into the rockers where it does no
good. This is a normal phenomenon for the 455 at high speed. The
restrict ors keep the oil in the lower part of the engine where it is
needed. Thermostats must be used to keep the boiling temperatures of
the coolants at above boiling points., The GMC 455 engine or any other
engine just will not operate correctly with out the water thermostat
installed. There is discussion as to which type to use also. There is
the kind that opens sideways and then there is the kind that opens up
and down. Robershaw is recommended and of course there are a number of
others on the market. I think you need to get some things clarified.
