Oil pressure

Does the location of the oil pressure sensor, coincide with the top of
the pump discharge? I am assuming, that as long as the pressure there
is good, it should be good every where. Not counting sizes of passages
or restrictions inherent to the 455.

The oil pump is in the back bottom of the block. It is driven off the
back of the cam and the distributor is on top. It is probably near the
end of the oil system. If you have 45# there you have 45# pounds
everywhere. You cannot compress a liquid.

In a static fluid that would be true, but when the fluid is in motion,
friction losses reduce the pressure downstream. In addition, pressure will
be lower on the downstream side of any restriction.

Patrick,
1 to 3 pounds max within the main galleries. Granted if you were use a
restricting orifice as some do to reduce the oil to the rockers (A
Mondello Trick with the HP rockers) the oil pressure would be less on
the downstream side of the orifice. As for friction losses I suspect
that it is very low. I don't have a Crane Engineering Manual at the
house, but I will look tomorrow that see what the press drop would be
per 100' which is the standard.
