I recieved this reply to my inquiry about the correct
replacement for the oil pressure switch for the 6000
watt Onan on my GMC.

NAPA # OP6074 It replaces OE on several 80 ish GM
vehicles and a 90 ish

Maxwell)

S310 costs $5.00.

I work for Dana Corp which recently bought Echlin Inc.
Echlin makes parts for Napa and Borg Warner. I
contacted an engineer at our Kansas plant where the
oil pressure switches are made for both markets. His
response is below.

No problem although as stated below something is
questionable. NAPA model OP6074 does not equal BWD
S310, it does however equal BWD S510. Is this likely
just a typing error or is the S310 correct and the
NAPA OP6074 wrong.
If you want the O.P. from NAPA OP6074 our cost is 79
cents. Do you want 2?

I told him to get me the NAPA OP6074 if it does not
fit I will post later. I do appreciate the numbers
provided, my response is in the intrest of accuracy
only and for all I know both numbers fit the
application. Thanks all.

Interesting!

I know that the BWD S310 worked with my Onan 6000KW
and my neighbor's Onan 4000KW generators. Whether or not
that is the correct replacement is unknown to me. I just
know that they seem to be working correctly.

Of course there could have been a problem with the parts house
and both of the units (purchased from the same place within a few
months of each other) were in the wrong boxes. I mentioned
before that when my neighbor bought his S310 the first time it
was the wrong switch. He went back and the counter guy at the
parts place found a S310 box that had a switch that looked like
and operated like the original.

So maybe the S310 is the wrong number after all?

Another interesting thing I found:

The first time I attempted to buy a switch for my
Onan I went to the Onan Distributor. They looked
up in their master parts list for my particular model
number and sold me the wrong switch. It didn't
work at all and that is what prompted me to go to
the auto parts place in the first place.

They also sold me the wrong air filter for the my generator.

SO I SAY AGAIN, TAKE THE PART YOU WANT REPLACED
WITH YOU TO THE PARTS PLACE. MAKE SURE IT LOOKS
AND WORKS LIKE THE ORIGINAL! DON'T TRUST THE
KID WORKING BEHIND THE COUNTER TO GET YOU THE
RIGHT PART.
