Getting ready to do timing chain. Not sure how the front of the oil pan is
sealed when putting cover plate back on. Do I need a new
front oil pan gasket? Since the front motor mount is detached and the engine
can be raised, can the oil pan be removed or do you have to remove
the tranny and final drive according to the repair manual?

Also, the repair amnual picture of aligning the timing marks is really dark.
How do you make sure everything is lined up properly when putting a new
timing chain on?

Thanks

I did mine about two months ago in CT at 20 below wind chill. Whine Whimper
Now that we got past that. I replaced the front oil pan gasket and it was a
bear to squeeze in. You absolutely do not have to take off the oil pan nor the
rest of the stuff in the manual. I bought a roller chain and alignment was no
problem. both the cam and crank are keyed and each gear had a mark, bottom of
the cam and top of the crank. frankly you would really have to try to goof it
up.
