That time again. I have a Wix 51258 on my shelf. Going to pull the plug this morning but I happened to look at the parts interchange at is has a 51049
for a 77 455. Now I am confused. Too much information? The Wix website calls for the 51258.

??????

Thanks.

Larry.
The 51258 will work just fine, it is 4.338” tall and The 51049 os 3/4” longer and they both have the same specs I have run the 51049 since the the early 2000’s because it is bigger (longer). Your good with the one that you have on hand. You could use the other filter on your next oil change.

I believe I have bounced around between these two in the past but just wanted some additional feedback. Thanks.

Larry,
I just went through this with NAPA and was told that one was listed as an automotive oil filter ($5) and the other was listed as an industrial oil
filter as in a filter for the hydraulic system on your tractor. Listed with the exact same specifications but the "industrial" filter was listed at
$16. I can see some benefit to an extra 3/4 inch of filter material, but this time I went for the cheap one. JWID

On oil filters, Amazon is your friend. Went to O'Reilly's to purchase oil filter for pick-up. Pre-paid for pick-up today. Went back to get it,
previous shift sold it to someone else. (so much for pre-pay). Exact WIX filter is on Amazon for $12, 2 day delivery. O'Reilly planned to order direct
from Wix for over a 1 week delivery time.
Can you guess where my filter is coming from?

I don’t use the long one because:
1) I feel it is more exposed to being torn open by truck tire shards etc
2) more expensive
3) if you don’t get it pre filled (difficult due to angle) more no oil pressure time at first start up
4) I don’t go long enough between changes to restrict the media in the standard length filter

Just my 2 cents, I've read that the 51049 and the NAPA equal, on the WIX site, does not have an anti drainback valve, I found the Baldwin B9 does but
when installed it is very close to the bolt heads for the inner axle joint, I know it should never hit but I can't help but worry about some type of
debris getting caught in there, not sure how close a 51049 is.

Correct on no antidrainback in the longer can filter. The original AC filter was PF30 which is a PF24 (Buick) with no antidrainback. AC dropped the
30 years ago and let the 24 supersede. So in theory the valve is not required for BBO. But your concern on the Baldwin can size is to not be taken
lightly. I saw another oversize application chafe snd rub through pumping out 4 quarts in 30 seconds. Bigger not always better.
