Oil filters... which to use?

Hi folks.

Based on the oil filter comparison of a few days ago I was going to wean
myself off Fram.

Easier said than done. Looked at a couple of places and almost all available
was orange (Fram).

Asked a counter person at a respectable Jobber and all they carry is Fram.
His comment was they are the best available and Fram is the only one that
stands behind it's filter if it's proven to be the cause of engine problem.
Of course it could be just salesman talking.

Add to that not knowing who really makes what filter, no matter what brand,
it gets even more confusing than what brand of oil to use.

How about a show of hands as to what you're using and are happy with over
the years, as well as what brand, if any, you used to use and why the
switch.

As for myself, I've probably been on Fram more than any other for my 200k+
miles. Have I just been fortunate and lucky? Not likely as I just don't have
that kind of luck. Unless of course that's where it (my luck) is being used
up.

Fram is certainly the easiest to find.

To Fram or not to Fram... that is my question.

AC/Delco.

Had a Fram fail on a ditch witch, like Arch's it blew apart; ruined the
engine which had no oil pressure indicator, gauge or light, a very bad
design that has now been 'fixed'.

Had another fail on a Pentastar, gasket was no good, shouldn'ta happened,
but it did, an inexperienced driver. Ruined a 2.5L Mitsi. Made him write on
the scheduling board 200 times "Red lights are bad"

Now we use only AC/Delco, but only because our shop guy likes the color blue
and we've got more GM than Pentastars and only 2 Fords.

I showed him the printout from the web site comparison, to which he replied:
"Hmmm. Guess we'll stick with AC, huh boss?

I'm like you Heinz -- I never gave oil filters a second thought. Now I do.

Heinz:

I've used mostly Fram (grown to like the orange, I guess) for nearly 40
years and have never experienced a problem, or with any other brand either.
Actually, I usually stock up periodically with either AC or Fram, depending
on what's on sale at the time I need em.

Get a kick out of the display local NAPA dealer has on the counter of the
cut open section of several filters mounted side-by-side together, and their
touting of the NAPA brand, which I believe is made by Wix? Never bought
into their argument of the NAPA brand as being superior.
