Welp, I've had it with this Mickey Mouse "ADJUSTO" brand, vacuum controlled,
oil checker gizmo. I would like to put back on a plain jane oil dip stick.
Doesn't have to be stock. Heck I don't mind lifting the cover to check my
oil. Does anyone know if a std. oil tube and dip stick from a say '75 Olds
Toronado will be at the right level? -or- am I better off just calling
Gateway, Cinnabar, Sirum or Golby and getting a stock replacement setup? I'm
going on a long weekender (5 days and about 1500 miles total). I have more
than enough problems and sure don't want to run my "Sweat Lodge" low on oil.

Ron,
I thought of this when I was under the thing, dripping sweat and power
steering fluid from every part of my body a couple of weekends ago. It made
me laugh in a less than desirable situation so that's what I use now to
cheer myself up when something new breaks. Now, if I just figure our how to
get "Sweat Lodge" on my license plate in 7 characters or less I'll be real
happy!!!

Just go to the Olds dealer and get the 455 olds dipstick & tube.

I replaced ours several years ago. when I changed ours, I did an oil change
and filter change, after running the engine a very short time, long enough to
insure all passages and filter contained oil, I checked the oil level and it
registered correctly on the olds stick. so no problem.........

I prefer the inside stick over the long one, it gives me a chance to do a
visual check on the engine, for any possible problems...
