I would never do this but a friend a few years ago used Mobil 1 in his ford
thunderbird. Never changed the oil, every 5000 miles changed the filter and
added another quart of oil. He claimed to never have any problems.

Realistically it is not the oil that wears out, but the additives that are
depleted. As I noted earlier, when I worked for the Air Force, the diesel
mechanics never changed the oil in the large Diesel generators. they took
oil samples at regular intervals and sent them to the lab for testing. When
the results came back, they would take the stated amount of oil out of the
sump and add the same amount of new oil.

Cummins diesel now has an accessory in their big diesels called Cummins
Centinel that constantly takes a little oil out of the sump and burns it,
and at the same time injects new oil into the crank case. Believe they only
do a total oil change every 525,000 miles. For everyone but Dave Greenberg
that would be a lifetime of use.

Want to see it go to http://www.cummins.com/partserv/centinel.html

Why can't we make a similar system for our use and using Mobil 1?

any interest could be the next project after the wheel bearing puller.
