I agree wholeheartedly. I am in the retail computer business & deal only
in PCs--the Apples don't need maintenance or give trouble, hence no living
for me there. On my personal machine at home, I run Linux & BeOS only.
Both are excellent--boot ONCE & leave it running forever-doesn't crash. And
FREE, with good programs available, most also free. You have chosen poorly
on the Compaq. They build good stuff for commercial network apps, but the
retail user stuff is pure crap. Their laptops are the cream of the crop
(some models).
I've learned that Windows can be beat into line (until some program
installs an "upgrade"). I use Windows95 "C" on my new builds & they do
fairly well. Bless Microsoft for my daily bread, for without them, there
would be far less easy money to be had. Not to forget AOL, another source
of easy repair money.
I also have several Beta machines. Definitely the better format.
