I bought my 73 GMC about 6 months ago. A lot of the restoration is
complete including new interior furnishings. I love it and like to show
it off, but there is this little odor problem. When I first go in it I
get this sour odor. Only lasts about 20 -30 seconds and then I guess I
get used to it and can't smell it any longer. A few people don't notice
it at all. Could be from previous smokers as its kinda like that, but
with all new carpeting, drapes and upholstery and lots of wall washing I
would think it would have got better, but it hasn't. Also I don't think
its the holding tank as I recently flushed it out a couple times then
filled it with strong chlorine solution, but next morning odor was still
there. However when I completly fill the holding tank it leaks out the
top probably at the toilet connection where I can't see. This tells me
the holding tank is not completely sealed with the incoming piping and
odors could be seeping into the coach at this leak.

A while back I was talking to my old timer neighbor ( I'm 62--he's
ancient) and I was talking about my GMC. He said he remembered the GMCs
because they all had the same odor- kinda formaldehye like. Are any of
you aware of a problem with an odor like this or have any
suggestions? Larry.

Had a similar problem in my 73, finally discovered that wasp nest had
sealed off the plumbing vent above the bath. Worth a check?
