We are parked parallel to,the beach at Playa Bonita RV park in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, MX, the only GMC in the,place. You had better like to talk GMCs if you sit outside-where one should be all day every day! Everyone who walks by either knew someone who had one, or almost bought,one back in the day. Listening to all this talk I get,the feeling there must have been a bazillion of these made. Way too much familiarity for just 13000 of them.
For some it is hard to tell if the Clasco or,the Abarth is the greater interest draw.
One story I thought you all would enjoy came from a fellow in a once Subaru 4 door that is now nothing but some tubing holding the front and rear ends together with a few seats in between. He told me his buddy purchased a 73 GMC new where the spindle broke clear off while going 80 mph down the freeway. He insisted that the wheel came completely off and they never did find it. According to his story his buddy just drove on to the next town where it could be repaired. I gently told him how the whole back end would have dropped to the ground if one wheel came off but that didn't stop him. He even came back the next day saying he called his friend who reconfirmed the tale. Ok, Jerry, just listen politely and change the subject......
Anyway, a beautiful place and much interest in our old beasties. Those who don't know anything about them think they are cute and just the right size and want to know where to buy one. Those who do claim to know something about them want to know who did the paint job and when. Their face drops when I tell them it was done in 1994 by Jim Bounds and the Clasco crew. So far the clear cote is still holding up well. Having been garage kept since 1994 sure helps! Thanks for the great job, Jim. Ok, ok, I know you didn't work the gun but you and the Clasco guys certainly did learn how to,paint one of these things correctly, even back then.
