You Porsche nuts probably didn't know that I once had that affliction also:
In '74 I bought a '57 356A and immediately started what turned out to be
an exactly 1 year restoration. Kept it until, I dunno, '83 maybe, when I
sold it -- to be returned to Germany for complete re-restoration (they
didn't like that I'd put a sunroof top on it since that S/N didn't come
from the factory that way). Long tale to go with that.

Isn't that a bit heavy toad for a GMC? :-)

Purty tho'. Are you going to have to rent another storage unit for it or
does Double Trouble leave room for it?

Rob, pretty awesome vehicles. I have a good friend who is one of top Triumph m/c restorers in the states and lots of his bikes go to Aus. Do you have to convert the Town and Country to right hand drive?

I Thought you had said..Do you convert the bikes to RHD?

$19.95 !

Nice stuff Robert, nice stuff!

Gary,

Thanks and to answer your question I will not have to convert the T&C to RHD.

In New South Wales vehicles manufactured before 1989 that weigh under 4.5 tons do not have to be converted to RHD.

I also have my Dad's 1968 Type III VW Squareback Station wagon here and it is LHD.

The Blue Streak had to be converted to RHD as it weighs more than 4.5 tons when loaded..

Oh yeah, one more thing, to drive a vehicle that is over 4.5 tons one must obtain a Light Truck drivers license; which, in my
opinion is a damn good idea! A driver needs to take the vehicles size and weight into consideration as there are BIG differences
between driving a car and even a 23 foot GMC let alone a 40 foot monster!

On a final note the rules for conversion vary from state to state here in Australia, in Queensland you don't have to convert a GMC
to RHD. Personally I don't have a problem with not converting a car, however, a vehicle the size of a GMC is another story. There is
NO WAY I would want to drive one that has not been converted,

Rob M.

Thanks for the info Rob and I agree that there needs to be at least some sort of driver prep for large motorhomes.

thanks

Mike,

I just finished watching a three part mini series called "Harley and the Davidson's" which covered the history of Harley-Davidson
from 1903 to the introduction of the Knucklehead in 1931. It showed the INTENSE rivalry between them and Indian which Harley won as
Indian went out of business in 1953. The Indians currently being sold are NOT made by the same company it's a resurrection. I have a
friend that recently retired from H-D and when I told him that it was on Downunder he advised it was on in the USA over the summer
and he watched it with archivists from H-D who noted that it was very accurate accounting only dramatized a bit.

So now you're wondering why is he telling me all this BS? The reason is on both the 1946 H-D Knucklehead and the 1946 Indian Chief
the shifter is on the left side of the tank. On the H-D you pull the lever rearwards out of neutral into first, then forward through
neutral into second, and forward into third. On the Chief you push the lever forward out of neutral into first, then rearwards past
neutral into second and third.

The shift pattern wasn't a big enough difference for Indian so in 1947 they moved the shift lever over to the right side of the tank
making it harder to change over from an Indian to a H-D!

I'm glad I was born in '46 or I'd have even bigger problems swapping between the '46 H-D and '46 Indian. Then there's my 1988
Heritage Softail and my 2003 Ducati S-4 Monster. :-)

Rob M.
