Aircleaner Elements For The Onans............ You can get a shorter one that works fine, but doesn't work quite as long, because of slightly less surface, from NAPA, #7-02719. Real expensive. I think I paid about six bucks last time You'll have to add some threads to the center rod, but that's no big deal If you've got some time on your hands which most of you old retired farts probably have, do this: Pull your old element out. It must be the type that has the metal cap at one end. If it doesn't, steal someone's old element when they get ready to throw it away. Take your propane torch and heat the metal end carefully. It will soften the plastic that holds the end onto the wire mesh. Pry it off when it softens. Get a screwdriver and cut all the old paper element out, being careful to not distort the wire mesh. When the underside of the metal cap is clean and the old paper is all gone, find some breathable plastic foam. Most of it is breathable. If in doubt, puff through it. If you turn blue and fall down, it's not breathable. Cut a round chunk of it on your bandsaw that will fit down inside without squashing. If you squash it, the surface will be reduced and it won't breathe properly. Plunk the metal cap back on. It doesn't have to be glued, as long as the plastic foam is up against both ends of the tube. Poke the rod down through the center of the foam and tighten the wingnut. You now have a breathable foam aircleaner that you can pull the element out of, squeeze out in solvent to clean and put back in. The foam is free, so change it every once in a while so it doesn't begin to break down. Not one of you will believe this, but I gave Jack Krizmann this idea back when we were racing motorcycles. He then went on to found the Filtron company that you all know for it's aircleaners. He then became a multi-gazillionaire and I, being struck down by poverty in the prime of youth, am still running my automotive driveshaft shop in the wilds of Oregon! If any of you troops have any questions on this give a yell.
