AA are fine for the camera, but get soma NiHy (Nickel Metal Hydride) rechargeable
batteries and a charger. Digital cameras eat batteries like crazy. Energizer
has a charger battery combo pack that works well. The pack of 4 batteries should
be between 9 and 13 dollars plus the charger. Get 8 batteries. 4 for the camera
and 4 to keep charged. Works great for me.

I bought a Sony Mavica for several reasons, one of which was not cost,
because it cost more than the others. There are other negatives, such as
picture quality, but here is my 2 cents.

The Sony stores pictures on 3.5" floppy discs, which are cheap and easy to
find. Most others use flash cards or smart media cards, which are pricey and
only hold 6 to 8 shots in higher quality modes. The other plus with the Sony
was battery life. I get about 60 minutes of photo time with one charge. (It
came with a recharger and battery).

I had bought an Agfa (which was on sale) at CompUSA, and it eat thru 4 AA
batteries in 6 PICTURES!!!. As I don't own stock in Duracell, that camera
was promptly returned.

On the down side, the resolution on the Sony isn't as high as with others.
The quality is like that of an average snapshot camera. It WILL NOT replace
a high end 35mm camera with regards to quality, but it is good for general
purposes.

Another plus with the 3.5" disc storage is that you can use any computer
running windows to display your shots. No cables to hook up, no special
programs, nothing.

I bought mine a bought a year ago at $699, but they have gotten cheaper.

If you want to get one of the cheaper models, see what the storage capacity
of the card is (how many pictures) See how you get them into your camera. If
there is a cable hook up, add in the cost of an A/C adaptor, as you'll go
thru even more batteries downloading from camera to computer.

If you have any more questions about the Sony, just write to me. By the way,
I don't work for Sony, I am just happy with my choice.

lastly, here is a good source for camera info.

Marlene, Can't help you with the camera question, but CAN tell you that CU
tested batteries and found that the cheapest, off-brand or store brand you
can find will give about the same service as the highly touted, big budget
brands (somebody's got to pay for all that expensive TV and print
advertising the Energizer Bunny buys each year. Can you say "consumer?").
Many of those off-brands come out of the high priced battery plants and just
get different labels. That fact has been further verified by Atlanta
consumer guru, Clark Howard and, not incidentally, my OWN personal
experience.

Marcus,

Sorry, I've been doing so much that I haven't had a chance to chime in on
this camera thread.

Under direction, I picked up the Polaroid 700 camera at Walmart and have
had a great time! It is so nice to be able to post pics the same day that
it has truly set me free!

The Polaroid unit is simple to set up & use, there were 2 different
programs to use that came with it (pic the one thats easiest to
understand). Take a look at my web site & look at the new pics to see the
quality.

I haven't noticed the battery eating tenancy but I take a simple shot or 2
and turn it off. I don't use the LCD screen and that is probably why my
batteries are holding up.

I waited way too long to get one of these, with the price of such a
companion at $219, everyone should get one! I mean, how low will they go??
